An Easter discovery
As I think I have mentioned, Castlebank was built for Alexander Black, Procurator Fiscal of Fife in 1854. His daughter, Anne Louisa Black died a spinster of considerable means, still in possession of Castlebank. I discovered that she had been a great benefactor of Cupar (as was the custom for wealthy unmarried ladies at the time), and not only had left the bandstand in the park (which J and I stumbled upon on our first day here), but also a fund for the poor children of Cupar, which from her death in 1924 had been used to fund annual treats for them. I also read in her will that she had left a sum of money to create a stained glass window in the Old Kirk, in honour of her father and brother.
This week, J and I were in the Old Kirk for an ecumenical service, and I asked the Minister if we could look for the window. We found it.

It was wonderful to see the name of our house on the window, but sad to hear that the Anne Black fund, whilst still running, now had very little funds remaining.
