When it’s Scone, it’s Scone…

I couldn’t resist the title.  J and I went to Scone Palace today and I discovered that it is definitely pronounced to rhyme with “doom” and not “loan”.  But this is in general a strange word, because with the edible item I pronounce it to rhyme with “gone”.  Anyway, we had a nice time.

The Palace itself was great, not just huge state rooms but also a lot of quaint curios and stories to go with them.

You were not supposed to take pictures inside but I sneaked this picture of a chair to give the cats an idea of how the other half lives.

Here is J contemplating taking the stone of destiny back to England again.

Here is me looking cold (not the best of weather today).

The gardens were fab.  I always like a kitchen garden and a walled garden – I should have brought my secateurs for a few clippings.

There were peacocks everywhere, and at this time of year the males were displaying and screeching at each other (just like humans at the moment – they should be elected as MPs).

We went round the maze, which was a good one – much harder than the famous one at Hampden Court.  Of course being old hands at AD&D, J and I just followed the left hand wall to get to the centre, and then the right hand wall to get back.  Amazingly though, no one else seemed to know this simple trick and lots of people were getting lost.

This is the centre of the maze.

Finally we had some refreshments in the coffee shop.  This is, wait for it…

The Scone of Scone.
