Potato harvest
Back in April, just for shits and giggles, I planted half a bag of Tesco “multi-purpose” potatoes which had sprouted slightly. These came up hugely, and today I harvested them. I wanted them as new potatoes partly because I love new potatoes, but also because the patch they went in was reclaimed from a dead piece of land covered in rubble and the soil on it was not very deep. I got these potatoes from them.

We had them for lunch with roast lamb, rosemary (see below) and some green vegetables – they were pretty good.
I am now going to seed the area with green manure – but pull this up rather than dig it back in. This rather peculiar course of action is to deliberately deplete the soil of nutrients so that in autumn I can plant a wildflower plot without them getting choked with grasses. In the picture the plants are herbs which are either annuals which we will eat, or perennials which can stay.

The lavender I pruned from my Mum’s bushes has now been processed and is ready to bag up. I plan to mix it with some rosemary (we have so much of this that if I don’t prune it soon, Gertie will not get into her driveway).
