New shelf

One of our airing cupboards which was supposed to be for towels, the upstairs step ladder and the upstairs hoover (aka “The Shark”) has been a right untidy mess since we moved in.  I should explain about the “upstairs” part – we have three of various household things – one for the basement, one for the ground floor and one for upstairs.  This is because there are a lot of stairs (37 in total), the ones to the basement are steep and narrow and the ones to the first floor are curved, making carrying ladders and hoovers between floors rather difficult.

Anyway, this cupboard is great storage but it didn’t have much shelving, so when we moved in I put some towels on what shelves there were and slung a load of stuff I didn’t know what to do with into the bottom.  As is the way of things, the junk attracted more junk and it was getting to be a disgrace.

So today I made new shelving from birch ply.  I used the nail gun I got for Christmas to secure it all in place, with R holding the wood and keeping his fingers well out of the way.

I cleared out a load of junk and packed all my fabric remnants into one bag (I made this bag at school aged 11).  It looks a great deal better now.
