House

New Curtains

I thought my office was looking a bit dreary.  The curtains had been up since we moved in – now only were they a heavy dark purple and brown, but they were absolutely filthy and all ragged along the bottom.  They were not worth dry cleaning and I can’t imagine anyone wanting them so they are off to the tip.

I got some new ones from John Lewis’ – the only company that does ready mades in the length we need in this house.  I did contemplate making them myself – but bizarrely enough by the time I had bought the fabric, lining and tapes it would have been just as expensive (not the same as in the drawing room where even Lewis’ don’t make the ready made ones in a long enough length and I was obliged to make them myself).

Anyway – here there are.  With many thanks to poor R who is the only one of us tall enough and strong enough to put them up.  Interestingly you can see that this window is still the original small paned version that the house was created with – most of our windows are single pane and were probably replaced in 1870s.

I am also in the process of clearing out a load of clutter from the garage – thank heavens for the “Free Stuff Cupar” Facebook page – where I have managed to find good homes for all the corded power tools we have been replacing with battery ones.
