Getting ready for our holiday
J and I are off to Norfolk next week to see the house where he was brought up. We sold it the year before last (which is where most of our furniture came from) and it will be interesting (or perhaps upsetting) to see what the lady who bought it has done with it. I would really have loved to have kept the house and lived in it, but it wasn’t really big enough for our idea of consolidating the two households, plus it is super inconvenient for R’s work travel – you would think Argyll is bad until you realize that North Norfolk is over two hours from the nearest proper airport – and even then it is Stanstead.
But anyway, Little Walsingham is the National Shrine of the Virgin Mary for both Anglicans and Roman Catholics and is quite a special place spiritually (I think so anyway – someone told me the other day that they thought it was “soulless” and it is really nice to walk around, look at both shrines and sundry other churches and indulge in some quiet reflection. It is also very pretty, there is a great farm shop and the restaurant at the Anglican shrine serves the best ploughman’s ever (involving about a pound of assorted cheeses and half a pig).
I got us some T-Shirts made up to (figuratively) wave the flag for St James and the SEC while we are down there.
