Cooker fun and games
Our new Neff oven has been entirely satisfactory since we got it back in June. It heats up quickly, bakes evenly and has lots and lots of space to make a full Sunday lunch with a chicken, roast potatoes, Yorkshires (yes, I know but I like them with roast chicken) etc.
So getting lots of use as it does, it gets a bit messy so I have been scrupulous about cleaning it regularly using its special pyrolytic cycle. This heats it up to 500C which burns off all the grease and stuck on bits, leaving only a fine ash dust which can be swept out with a brush. But yesterday I put it on and went out of the room (it makes a hell of a fan noise). When I came back, the fan was off, there were no lights on the oven, and the door was stuck shut.
So I called Neff, and as it was under warranty they came out for free. But of course, it is not the oven, it is the electrics in this little box gizmo (I don’t know what they are called). And of course the cooker engineer isn’t “allowed” to touch the electrics.

So I got an electrician who unwired the switch to discover that it had melted inside because the wires had been bent over incorrectly inside the casing. This was originally done by his firm of electricians (though not by him). Anyway, I will let them off because it is now working again and they came out very promptly.
So tomorrow we can have some proper food and R is back from his conference (until the next one).
