Halloween coming

Not only is it Halloween, but four days later it will be my big birthday.  I won’t say how old I am but I was born in 1966.

When I was a child in the 1970s we did celebrate Halloween, but it was a much lower key thing with turnip “neep” lanterns rather than pumpkins.  These photos are of me – the fairy one I think is in 1970 (the year we moved to England), and the witch I think is the following year.

Anyway, to be honest pumpkins are better than neeps because they are much easier to carve, look better, and don’t make an awful smell when a candle gets next to them.  And I think Halloween as celebrated these days is quite fun (although as usual gets kicked off far too soon) – I am off to the “mega maze” at Cairnie’s fruit farm for their horror spectacular tomorrow night.
