A memory of Norfolk

We have a long border around our front lawn.  When we moved in it was choked up with foxgloves, daisies and some rather straggly rose bushes which had largely reverted to the wild and it was taking hours of back breaking work trying to keep it tidy.

So I decided to do something about it.  Somehow lavender is always associated with Norfolk and some happy holidays for me, so I decided to create a lavender hedge right along the border and a decorative bed behind it.  I bought an electric rotovator to clear the ground and an augur (a sort of giant drill).  Between the three of us we cleared the area in an afternoon.  This is J at the rotovator and a bed post rotovation (is that a real word?)/

Then I bought 42 2l pots of lavender and a few other shrubs like a Japanese Acer tree.

And we planted them.

They look very nice – I just hope they thrive and we bring a touch of the Norfolk summer to Fife.
