Night time companion
Three nights ago, I had closed the door, got into bed and was just about to turn the light out when I noticed that I had a visitor. Saphy was curled up on the floor in the corner of my bedroom, right on top of the cord of the ironing board.

I normally don’t let the cats in my room at night because I like my door closed, and based on past experience they seem to like to get up at 3am for a quick game of zoomies, and if you don’t let them they scratch the carpets up. But on this occasion I just didn’t have the heart to turf her out.
She was actually very peaceful and good – at some time during the night she moved onto the bed itself, but it is a big double and I didn’t even notice she was there, and when she woke me at 6:15 with a very polite little meow, I had been about to get up anyway.
She has been there every night since, and in general has been pretty well-behaved. She slightly blotted her copybook in the early hours of this morning though. Around 4am she decided that my face was very dirty and needed a good wash with a special focus on my nose, and no matter how many times I rolled over to try to get away she followed me in a very determined fashion. So I have a very clean (and somewhat abraded) nose now.
I don’t know how much longer she will be my companion for – cats tend to move their primary sleeping place every few weeks (apparently in the wild this is to reduce the spread of parasites) so doubtless she will move back to either the airing cupboard or R’s wardrobe soon, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t pleased to have her company for now.
