A Sunday Mystery

Our kitchen is getting replaced this week – so I have had to remove the entire contents while it is being done.  It is surprising how much stuff there is and how much it had embedded itself in less than two months.

This meant that we had no where to cook (well there is J’s basement kitchen but I don’t like the look of the cooker) so we went out to the “Greenhouse” Restaurant just round the corner from us (after living in the middle of nowhere for 11 years it gave me great pleasure to write that).  What a smashing little restaurant it is – down one of Cupar’s narrow lanes and only with about 10 tables – but brilliant food and service.

J and I had the Sunday roast (R of course had a burger – he nearly always has either a burger or fish and chips).

It was absolutely delicious – one of the best roasts I have ever had.  Then because we are all greedy, we had dessert to.  I had creme brulee, R had chocolate fudge cake and ice cream (R nearly always has either chocolate or ice cream or both) and J had lemon posset.  They were all good but the posset was the best.

On the way back we investigated a stone plaque set into the wall just as you go into Castlebank Road.  I’ve seen it from the car but I wanted to take a closer look and see if I could work out the inscription.

I played around with it with a graphics program increasing and decreasing the contrast and brightness – and I think it says something like.

WD (or MoD)
No 17
MoD BOUNDARY
EAST BARRACKS
WALL OPPOSITE
NORTH [something]

I tried asking on FB to see if anyone local knew what it was but no one did – although we all think it is something to do with the army as there is a base at the far end of Castlebank Road.

On Wed I am going to go to the Cupar Archive/Museum and see if anyone there has any idea.
