A walk in the park
R suggested that we went for a walk this evening because “he hadn’t been out of the house all day”. I didn’t like to mention that I had been outside in the intermittently rainy garden all afternoon.
The fence between our house and the modern bungalow that was built on part of the garden for the original house in 1970s has developed a bit of a droop. Last week I stuck in some new stakes to partially support it, and I also bought some very large planters to place right next to it. I am putting large rocks in the bottom of them and filling them with soil before putting plants in; hopefully this will keep the fence up for now, although medium term it will need replaced. Getting rocks and bricks and old tiles for “ballast” carrying them down to the bottom of the garden and then doing the soil filling is a long and physically challenging job, and not one I am getting a lot of assistance with at the moment (J’s excuse today was that it was raining).
Anyway, I went for a walk with R anyway because the sun had come out and it was very pretty by the side of the Eden. There were loads of rabbits bouncing about (the dog walkers had all gone home).

Plenty of wild flowers around – this one is comfrey which used to be used for bone healing.

Best of all, we went past a hawthorn tree – I presume we can “cast a cloute” now as may is definitely out (contrary to the commonly held belief, this means “may” the flower, not “May” the month. The noise from this tree was earshattering – there were hundreds of house sparrows making their home in it.
