Fife Show
The three of us went to the Fife show today – it was just over the other side of town so we walked rather than ending up getting stuck in a massive traffic jam going home. Many years ago J and I used to go the the Royal Highland Show at Ingleston, and R used to hide in a rat run to pick us up afterwards. No need of that today, although it was quite a long walk.
We had a nice enough time, there were all the usual animals, plus a pack of bloodhounds. They gave us some nice chat about these, including how they were used in America to “find people in swamps” – this seems a strange way of putting it, as I believe the people they were in general “finding” were terrified escaped slaves they were hunting down. They were lovely dogs but I can’t say I would care to be found by a pack of them in a swamp.
These were some lovely sheep that R and I last saw on holiday in the Tyrol (R and I were on holiday, the sheep lived there).

The obligatory pipe band

One thing that I was a trifle disappointed about was that I was keen to see the entries in the craft and baking competitions because I am planning to enter some things at the Cupar Flower Show in August. I thought I would have a look at the entries at the Fife Show and if they were of a massively high standard I would avoid embarrassing myself at the Cupar event. But all the adult categories only had one entrant – so she automatically won first prize for everything. Her stuff was very nice but there was nothing else for me to compare myself with – I also think I recognize her name as the person who won virtually everything in Cupar last year. So what the hell, I will enter.
I saw a nice little wynd (lane) I had not visited before on the way back. Unfortunately a shadowy figure spoiled my photo.
