An evening promenade
I haven’t been to St Andrews for a while so I thought I would go for a stroll along the sea front today after the “tourists had gone home” – partially because I wanted to have somewhere to park (a situation which is not always forthcoming during the day). So this was 7pm on a Sunday evening – and the tourists were most definitely still present. J and I walked down the main drag, and every second building was a restaurant or bar, and every single one of these had a crowd of tourists sitting out in front of it.
Down by the sea there were some students in bare feet with a bonfire playing what sounded like “The Smiths” and I was about to make a middle aged tutting sound before it occurred to me that that is exactly the sort of thing I used to do. Although they were cooking what smelled like beef burgers, so I do not think Morrisey would approve.
We saw this stone in the wall of the Cathedral; J identified it as a vase of tulips – apparently it is a vase of lilies (representing Christ’s purity) so he did not do too badly.

The sea was looking very fetching as usual.
