Gruesome
I found this when clearing out the garden at St Mary’s church Ladybank. The second time I saw it I realized that it would lie there indefinitely if I did not take it home and put it in the bin here.

But looking at it more closely (and with a little help from Gemini) I realize that it is the skull of a cat. There were no other bones, so I guess it died elsewhere and parts of its remains were carried away by a fox or crow. So I hope the poor creature died of natural causes and did not suffer, also that its humans did not grieve too much.
I have decided to clean it up and varnish it rather than throw it away – just to honour the creature rather than dumping it in the bin. I hope this does not make me a psychopath – actually far from it, I have my faults but cruelty to animals is not one of them. Unless fruit flies and bluebottles count.
