More travel for R

R went off on his travels again today.  I took a photo of him on the way out so I can remember what he looks like – this is conference season and I don’t see much of him.

After his experience last week when he got caught up in the air traffic control debacle I thought he might have changed his mind and taken the train which goes from Leuchars to Kings Cross London non stop.  First class (paid for by his employer) jump on the train with a nice window seat, a table for your laptop and watch the world go by for five hours.  Then you are in central London.  Alternatively you can take a train to Edinburgh Gateway and a tram to the airport.  Stand in a queue for security.  Have your bags searched and the full body pat down and shoes off (this happens to me every time I fly because I have metal in both my shoulder and my foot).  Get shut up in a metal tube and go round and round Heathrow for half an hour.  And then you are not even in central London.

So I had a enjoyable MS Teams conversation with R today.  He left the house at 9:50.  At 2pm he was still in Edinburgh airport so I messaged him “The train is leaving Newark now.  It will be in Kings Cross at 15:00”.  And then a little later – he was in the air at the time “The train was five minutes late in.  But if you had been on it you would be in the hotel eating chocolate raisins now”.  His only response was that he hoped I was being well paid for marketing LNER.

The ultimate test of all this of course will be when we go to Norfolk by train next week.  If it is a disaster R will never stop laughing at me.  But we will see.

On a slightly related subject, I ironed my clothes for Norfolk today.
