In progress
I dug the bed out this morning – it is a cold, north facing bed so I am going to need to be careful what goes in it – but at least it will be better than what was there before. Basically the roofers we had last year tipped concrete all over the back and I had to more or less chisel it out. There were also many stones, most of which I managed to get out. This is it dug over.

I’ve ordered a load of top soil and compost, so when that comes I will get the bed planted out. I also dug over the circular bed in the front lawn, and discovered one respect in which my foot gives me difficulty. I had a triple foot fusion two years ago and I normally have no problems apart from walking on very rough ground where my balance is affected by having no lateral movement in my foot, but doing proper digging with a fork involves standing on one foot and using the other to push the tines hard into the ground. If I stand on my right foot I have to push hard with my bad foot which is painful, and if I stand on my left foot it makes me unsteady (plus it is painful after a while as well). I managed it but not without considerable difficulty.
The pond was looking very pretty today – I tried to capture the Kingcups and their perfect reflection in the water but it has not turned out that well – never mind, the flowers are sensational.

R and I saw a really beautiful tree on our walk this morning as well. Our cherry tree is just coming into flower – unfortunately it is a purely ornamental one rather than the edible sort.
